Levante Mallorca by Camper Van

Artá, Capdepera and much more...

Levante Peninsula, nature, villages and beaches, is that all that we need?

The Levante peninsula is undoubtedly one of our favorite places on our camper or motorhome route in Mallorca. Here we can find everything, perhaps the two most popular tourist attractions are the Cuevas del Drach in Porto Cristo and the beaches of Cala Rajada. But we assure you that there is much more!

After visiting the beautiful fishing village of Portocolom in your camper van and all its small coves in the surroundings, we continue climbing northwards along the east coast. Next stop: Cuevas del Drach in Porto Cristo. We recommend getting tickets in advance through their website, and selecting the first pass in the morning, to try to make the visit quieter. The Caves of Drach receive many visitors and although they are spectacular, for us they lose a bit of their charm when there are too many people.

Porto Cristo is a coastal town, which belongs to Manacor, very crowded in summertime, which we are not fans of.

A little further up, to the north, we find the Cuevas de Artá, much less crowded and also spectacular, we highly recommend your visit either as a substitute for the Caves of Drach and thus avoid so much overcrowding or as a complement if we are left wanting more after seeing Drach.

We continue up the coast to reach two very special areas: Capdepera and Artá.

The lighthouse of Capdepera and its surroundings is highly recommended, it’s a good place to spend the night, see a beautiful sunrise and enjoy the beaches nearby. We highlight Cala Agulla, beautiful sandy beach of fine white sand and with the possibility of making a small excursion to visit some of the small coves that are around.

Artá is a beautiful village, in the middle of the natural park of the Levante peninsula. Here there is so much to see that we could even extend our stay here by a couple of days.

First of all the village of Artá itself is very nice and quiet, highlighting its weekly market on Tuesdays. Secondly, from here there are plenty of trails to discover the natural park and spend a day hiking surrounded by goats! And thirdly, the beautiful beaches of Artá. The main beach is Cala Mesquida, beautiful in itself and a good place to park and establish as a base to access later walking to other coves. From Cala Mesquida itself, taking a path to the left (west) we find after a walk of 30 minutes, Cala Torta, a wild beach without services and if we continue a little further we will find some even more remote and isolated coves, which even in the middle of summer we can enjoy peacefully.

The dirt roads in this area are in very bad condition, so without doubt, it is best to park in Cala Mesquida and walk to the other coves.

As you can see, in this area we could well spend several days or even our entire holiday!! But Mallorca offers so much to see and we decided to continue along the north coast to visit The beaches of Muro, the town of Alcudia and the bay of Pollensa. Let’s continue our route!

Remember to respect the current regulations, take care of the environment, do not disturb the locals and leave the place clean and without a trace of our visit. Let’s take care of the beautiful island of Mallorca.
